Pompeii Lecture, November 10, 2017

Updated: May 2, 2019

November 11, Cultural Lecture - Dr. Marjorie Och of UMW will speak to the group about the fascinating city of Pompeii.

The latest in our ongoing series of cultural lectures will take place Friday, November 10, at St. George’s Church, 905 Princess Anne Street. A social moment begins at 6:30, with the lecture following at 7 PM. The lecture is part of a continuing series of cultural talks offered by The Fredericksburg-Este Association. Entrance to the lecture is via the George Street side of the Church.

Dr. Och, professor of Art History at University of Mary Washington, has a particular interest in Italy, and has published widely on numerous Italian subjects. She has headed Study Abroad programs in England, Croatia, and Italy. Her lecture on Pompeii includes both historical and art historical notes about Pompeii, which was destroyed with the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The artefacts, including stunning mosaics preserved in the volcanic ash for millennia, now provide detailed insights about life during the Pax Romana.
