Once again, our September party/fundraiser with pizza, beer and rock ’n roll was a huge success, with hundreds of pizza and music lovers of all ages coming to Riverfront Park downtown to enjoy an al fresco evening with friends and family. What better way to spend a Saturday night?
As the Acoustic Onion band played, some took to the “dance floor” as they enjoyed such favorites as “Twist and Shout” and “Pretty Woman.”
Many volunteers put in long hours to set up tables and chairs; decorate the park with Italian flags; and ensure that signage, tickets, voting chips, ID checks, beer and wine, and of course the pizzas were ready by the 5 p.m. opening.
Pizzas were provided by Domino’s Pizza, Paisano’s Pizza, Marco’s Pizza, Pizza Hut and Papa Johns Pizza, and the considerable stack of empty pizza boxes visible at the end of the evening revealed just how busy the vendors had been! And after pizza, people could enjoy some ice cream from Italian Station’s Gelato.
As people entered the park, each was given a poker chip to vote for their favorite pizza maker, and this year’s winner was Marco’s Pizza! Congratulations!
