Our NEW logo, designed by Gabe Pons! The logo highlights Este's historic medieval tower, and also the historic tower of Fredericksburg's Renwick building, our former Courthouse.
The Fredericksburg-Este Association wanted a signature image of Fredericksburg that doesn't repeat the railroad bridge or the skyline with church spires--which, while wonderful, are used in several logos. Our new logo is unique, and also focuses on Este's visually interesting tower, as well as spotlighting the Renwick building, our town's most architecturally important public building. As the Renwick building is readied for its second life after serving as the City Courthouse for over a century, it is fitting to focus on this impressive and beautiful, but under-recognized, city treasure.
Designed by James Renwick and dating from 1852, the Renwick building is an example of the architecturally significant Gothic Revival. James Renwick is recognized as "one of the most successful American architects of his time" by the Encyclopedia of American Architecture. Renwick also designed St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York, the Smithsonian "Castle" in Washington, D.C., as well as dozens of critically acclaimed major churches and civic buildings.
