La Befana Celebration January 2019

Updated: May 2, 2019

Our annual dinner focusing on the Italian celebration of Epiphany, La Befana, drew a capacity crowd of 60 to Orofino Restaurant on Sunday, January 6. Orofino staff served up bounteous hors d’oeuvres and main courses, and wine served by Fred-Este volunteers added to the convivial evening.

Mounted photos from the Este Photography Club were offered for sale, and announcements for upcoming events for the group were also highlighted. Lots of familiar faces as well as new attendees made for great conversation and the evening’s lively success.

La Befana celebrates the flight of La Befana, the good “witch” who arrives by broom to sweep homes clean from last year’s misdeeds and unfortunate events. Good children receive treats and their naughty fellows are gifted with a lump of coal, according to tradition.

Many thanks to the many folks who offered their help in making the evening so much fun: Co chairs Pat Baughman and Ann Tebbutt, their trusty helpers Earl Baughman and Ron Tebbutt, headed the committee: Cathy Herndon, decorations and photo display; Linda Westerman, decorations and set-up; Chip Willis, treasurer; Scott Walker, 50/50 raffle; Ginny and Jack East, wine service—we thank them all heartily!
