The Chamber Chorale of Fredericksburg were guest performers at the William P. Carter Memorial Italian Composers Concert on Friday, October 25, at 7:30 PM, at St. George’s Church, 905 Princess Anne Street. The annual concert was offered free by the Fredericksburg-Este Association, in honor of Bill Carter, long-time choral performer and also active member of the Italian sister city group.

The program offered a blend of American choral classics by Gershwin, Rogers and Hammerstein, and Duke Ellington, followed by Italian compositions by Vivaldi, Palestrina, Marcenzio, Arcendalt, di Lasso, Puccini, Verdi, and Martini.

The Chamber Chorale, now celebrating its 30th season, is directed by Bryan Hiroto Stensen, who holds a bachelor’s in Vocal Performance and a master’s in Choral Conducting. He has held numerous professional positions with symphonic choirs and chorales. He currently performs with the U.S. Army Voices of “Pershing’s Own,” the U.S. Army Band.

The Chamber Chorale of Fredericksburg, founded in 1988, is noted for “beautifully blended tone, wide dynamic range, highly expressive singing, and diverse repertoire.” The Chorale has commissioned and premiered several works by Virginia composers. They perform at their regularly scheduled seasonal programs, and also frequently collaborate with many local organizations.

The Fredericksburg-Este Association, founded in 2015, is a sister city partner with Este, Italy. Its purpose is to nurture friendship and cultural understanding between the two cities through exchanges, programs, and events.
